Reset app preferences Android

So you had a tap too much and now a document of type x is always opening up in that app y?

The resolution is easy, yet you have to google for a couple of minutes – and I can spare you that.

The solution is this:

Quote:

The first method to remove a default app is through the system settings. Follow these steps for Android 11. In this example, we want to change our default browser from Chrome to Opera.

  • Open Settings and then Apps and notifications
  • Click See all apps
  • Find the app from which you want to stop from automatically opening.  In this example, we look for Chrome since we want to remove it as our default browser.
  • Tap on Chrome and expand the Advanced menu
  • Select Browser App

So essentially, you have to check the settings for the “target app” and check the advanced settings. Undo the preferences for this app and you’re done, and will be asked in the future again which app to use.
